"Toric reduction and tropical geometry"

I will report on joint work with Michele Vergne on a conjecture of Batyrev and Materov. The conjecture relates generating series of intersection numbers on certain families of toric varieties to Cox's toric residues on a polar dual toric variety. We show that the conjecture follows from a new residue formula for the cohomology of toric reduced spaces. To prove this residue formula then, we use methods of tropical geometry.
